waffles, vampires, and sleep. oh wait.

sometimes i sit in comd classes craving chocolate chip waffles four days in a row.
(ask brittney. i'm being completely serious.)
so at last one day i come home and make myself some deliciously crispy chocolate chip waffles, despite having other leftovers in the fridge.
and then eat four. FOUR, I TELL YOU. it's fine. judgment accepted.

lauren ate four pieces of pizza today. so that means i can eat four waffles, right?
get it? it's absolutely fine.
(lauren and i say that a lot.)

i'm realizing that it gets kind of confusing that my roommate's name is lauren and so is my bestfriendforever/soulsister's. but i never really call her lauren, so i guess that's how you'll know the difference. lauren=roommate. la la, laur, laursy, laursykins, l-dawg, or any other creative name i decide to come up with that day that remotely resembles lauren=lauren celeste wertz burnett. glad we got that one cleared up.

since aforementioned brittney is engaged, sometimes when classes get a little slow (ahemmmm.) she doodles and practices her new signature. so sometimes katie and myself join the party. yesterday and today were all time lows. you should see the paper i was doodling on/practicing signatures/practicing transcription on. it's a treasure. the point in me saying this, is this morning one particular class got even slower than usual, so i started practicing laur's new signature. discoveries: i hate cursive 'r.' like in nevers. rs together in cursive? the worst. also, i struggle with 'ur' combinations. and laur has two of them in her name. i probably spent a grand total of over 15 minutes today struggling with this detail during class. which is also fine.

last night we finally watched 'while you were sleeping.' best movie ever. adorable. love love. these mashed potatoes are so creamy. i like blondes. short and chubby ones. you like brunettes. ricky ricardo was cuban! haaahaha. best scene.

i took a three hour nap yesterday. THREE. kind of on accident, kind of not. THREE. always fine. unfortunately, it came back to bite me when i tried going to bed at 11:30 (feeling absolutely exhausted, mind you) and come to find that I COULD NOT FALL ASLEEP TO SAVE MY LIFE. literally. for hours it pained me. i was exhausted and tired, and could not sleep. rude. granted, there were a few other factors contributing to the inability to sleep. but seriously. usually i can sleep like a log! what's the deal? dumb.

if you're still reading right now, i salute you. really i do.

so then, sometimes i come home and watch a little vampire diaries. which is taking over my life. just kidding, a few weeks ago it did. now i have more self control. (kind of) but it's so intense it kills me! for example: one episode involved lauren throwing earrings at the tv. other episodes involve screaming or cheering. so fine. and the people are so beautiful i can hardly stand it. good thing i'm almost done with the second season and approaching being completely caught up. soo fine. ok, this whole set of comments (i don't think it deserves to be called a paragraph. or even a set of sentences) sounds incredibly pathetic. don't judge.

obviously, i need some sleep. and no more chocolate chip waffles for awhile. or at least not four at once.
good thing tomorrow is FRIDAY!

good thing i don't have any 8am classes next semester. i think i'd cry. this semester was (is) a doozy.

i'm sure i have more random details about my life i could come up with, but i'm also sure that no one on earth could care in the slightest. in fact, i'm sure you're slapping yourself for even reading all the way to this point.

em, emmers, emsykins, ems, e, ej, emily janette nevers (that one was usually reserved for when i'm in real trouble), (etc): over and out.

p.s. i'm excited for my brothers to have babies just so i can become auntie em. i'm 200 percent serious right now. and because i need some baby flesh to hold. i've missed it so. free babies all day every day for three months straight to a baby fast? rude.

over and out for reals.

to learn.

on my way out of the library yesterday afternoon,
i saw a man coming up the stairs in the atrium and leaving.
an old man.
like, in his 70's or 80's. walking with a cane.
and wearing a backpack of books.
he's my hero.

my grandma says one of her favorite sights is young people walking around,
weighed down by packs full of books.

sometimes in the middle of the semester,
it's hard to remember the significance of an education.
or the importance of a lifetime of education.
thanks for the reminder, mr.learning.
stay strong.

someday i'll ride a hot air balloon. i will.

best day ever.

there's something about autumn that's just so delicious.
don't you just love that word? delicious.

delicious autumn!
my very soul is wedded to it,
and if i were a bird i would fly about the earth
seeking the successive autumns.
george eliot

today was the first real autumn day. i saw it in the glorious colors and slightly grey sky. i smelled it in the air. i heard it in the crisp crunch of leaf piles that i walked deliberately through. and i tasted it in my hot cocoa, stirred to perfection. just like the world. stirred to perfection. it's so beautiful. sometimes i think this world is the greatest tender mercy of all. it's always breathtaking and beautiful, leaving a surprise in its majesty at the most unexpected of times and in the most unexpected of ways. always beautiful.

i found myself saying 'best day ever' quite a few times today. that's when you know it's a good day. why?
. almost not going to an 8am class, but promising yourself a nap as soon as it's over.
. having said class get out earlier than ever. aka, over 30 minutes early. win.
. walking back home while most people were approaching campus and just starting their day.
. pinterest love. also, my daughters (someday) will wear big bows in their hair. it's only fair seeing as i did the same as a wee one. and it's kind of adorable.
. finding that dead poet's society is on youtube. major win. (except the middle/endish part isn't there. boo.) guess what i did instead of taking a nap between classes?
. walking through multiple piles of crunchy big and crisp leaves on the way back to campus. some of which were like tree stars they were so big! seriously. trees just west of the fletcher building? win.
. when my professor tries to make jokes. and no one really laughs, which makes it even funnier. i like him.
. deciding to stop and wisely spend 85 cents on the way home. pure happiness in mint brownie form. and she gave me a deliciously large piece. mmmm.
. the crisp fall air. and coming home to our pumpkins on our porch. they so cute. well, voldemort isn't cute. but whatever. it's fine.
. finishing dead poet's society. oh captain, my captain. and loving the poetry kind of thought. i haven't thought that way in a long while. for the most part, that in depth kind of thought about poetry and literature hasn't happened since high school. except on rare occasions. shame. i miss that. also, i find myself enamored with this little piece of poetry:
We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven; that which we are, we are;
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.
alfred lord tennyson, ullyses
. that which we are, we are. all we are, we are.
. discovering two new loverly songs. here and here. i likey.
. borrowing while you were sleeping from a friend. i've been craving watching it since we watched the dinner table scene in my lang. development class. these mashed potatoes are so creamy! hahaha. love. the levels to which i'm excited to watch it? ridiculous. (i promise i don't just watch movies all day. i just realized that this makes it sound like i do. i promise i don't. ha haaa. i just leave out the studyinglotsandtakingdumbquizzes part of my life.)
. roommate stories. hilarious. end of story.
. knowing that the current romania interns are experiencing the incredible beauty and tranquility of brasov right now. i'msojealousicoulddie. but i'm excited for them too. for every thing there is a season.
. a quiet little fall evening. that consists of much snuggling in my bed. (oh, how i love my bed.) under many quilts. and feeling just snug as a bug in a rug.

does life get any better? probably not.
well. besides the idea of finding myself a new adventure.
as laur mentioned, it's something we're working on.
we both need a new adventure. suggestions?
but for now, i am content in tranquility.
that'll do, pig. that'll do.

conclusion:
best day ever.
sorry there are no pictures of it. i was too busy enjoying it.
life is beautiful, n'est-ce pas?
(that's called a tag question. let's not belabor this detail as some professors would. ahem.)

it really is kind of enjoyable.
confession: i don't really like halloween that much.
but i do like the cutesy decorating and things that result.

a technicolor lifestyle

sorry i stink at blogging. life has been busy lately. i'm here tonight to bring you a little slice of some fun moments of life. you know, the ones in which i haven't been studying, reading, or having a little pep talk with myself about how it's ok that i stink at french this semester because i was in romania and i have une dizaine et plus des enfants que j'aime. meaning, i have more than a group of ten kidlets that i love. this doesn't relate to french, but i like to tell myself that it does in order to make myself realize that my french skills suffered when i decided i wanted to be able to communicate in romania. such a decision meant putting my heart in it. and along the way, some french suffered as the casuality. and by some, please realize that i mean a lot. it's fine. ok. sob story over. but at least i'm getting better again? oh boy. at least my professor was nice as he broke the news to me gently that i am a moron. ok, so i'm not a complete moron. but there is room for improvement. and on the bright side, we had an entire discussion about my lineage/the lineage of my name. ha. that was a fun little moment to make me look better after being preceded by someone who brought him a bag of nuts and juice. (i know! who does that?? way to make me look bad.)

anyways. now, i bring to you the more exciting parts of life.
guess who came to visit me in p-town??
soul sister!
lauren celeste (wertz) burnett.
cool, huh?
i know you just can't get enough of us.
and you'll never tire of looking at pictures of us.
oh, good. because i have mooooore!
it's fine.
we cute.
you love it.
or maybe you don't.
buuut, if you're still reading at this point, then i'm thinking you do.

so at the end of the u's fall break (boo on byu for not having one),
the bestykins came to visit me on a saturday while willy (the husband) was at work.

so naturally, being reunited once more, we:

• acted like complete fools.
(ALWAYS. it's a skill. want lessons? we can teach you.)
• took part in some brandon flowers 'i'm a mormon' lovin.
• chatted with my roommate lauren. [two laurens, both of which are super rad.]
• initiated laurs into true provo culture through the one and only: JDAWGS!

lemonade is a lifestyle too.

as the scoutmaster behind us in line says, "jdawgs are not just lunch. it's a lifestyle."
oh right, did i mention that detail?
every scout troop in provo decided jdawgs would be a delicious lunch that day.
so we had fun people watching.
and by people watching, i mean little boy watching.
(and that just sounds creepy. please take it in the least creepy of ways.)
in exchange for lessons on how to always act like a fool, who wants to teach me how to not always look like a fool?

the trees are so festive, aren't they?
• talked. chatted. laughed. we're good at that.
• i introduced her to the beauty of modern family. and the incredible hilarity. the snorkles part at the end of this episode gets me every time. hahahahahahahahahaaha. so so funny.
• tried to get byu brownies (aka my weakness in life lately) and failed. rude. but got ice cream instead. we have a thing for ice cream. it's so fine. please keep in mind that all of this happened only a few hours after the muffins and chocolate milk morning. haaaa. that was a winning saturday in the food department. and the feeling disgustingly full of crap department.
• and then, she left. rude, huh? i know, i know. someday we'll live in the same city again. we must. i miss having a best friend in the same city as me that i can get to go do things with me and go cool places with so i don't have to go alone. university of utah graduate communication sciences and disorders program: 1, provo: 0. jk. provo's not 0. but in this department it is.
don't worry. lauren roommate took a few photos of us. because we all know we can't go without photos of ourselves together. and we all know you just love seeing millions of pictures of us.
without further ado, our cute faces:
my hair is a wild mane these days.

sick of us yet?
never?
oh good.
i'm glad.
me neither.
neverrrrr.

somedays and sometimes

sometimes in life, you just need a break from reality.
and a dose of perspective. a splash of it is so refreshing.

just let me know what i can do.
i know that i can, with thy help.
hard as things seem today,
they will be better the next day
if you choose to serve the lord this day.

does the use of technologies invite or impede the companionship of the holy ghost?
does it enlarge or restrict your capacity to love and serve god in meaningful ways?
to be encircled about eternally in the arms of his love
will be a real, and not a virtual experience.
david a. bednar

we watched the latter video in my religion class today, which was so interesting to me because it's something i've been thinking about a lot lately. and even better: i feel like there were a lot of people in my class that really related to it. (would you agree, brooke?) not just in an 'of course everyone relates to some extent because of our age group' kind of connection. but personally feeling inspired and touched like this was exactly what they needed to hear. or maybe it's just me. but this really is such a powerful message. and such a big and complicated issue. the line between doing good with the technologies available today and going overboard and wasting time is a very fine one. there are so many things that are both good and bad in the exact same ways, but it's all about how it's used and for how long. it's all so complex, and such a personal thing. time is so easily wasted these days through things that can be used for good and be inspiring and instrumental tools, but in excess become just that: a waste of time. and it's a line we all walk along every single day, because there's no avoiding it. there's no avoiding it, because this is the world we live in. lately i've considered going so far as to delete my facebook, because it usually is just a waste of time. however, it's a powerful social tool. and there are people that i have no other method with which to keep in contact with them. and usually, i wouldn't care. the people most important to me can email me or call me and that's that. but: romania. they may not have a phone. they may not have any other way for me to stay in touch with them, but they do have a facebook. love it or hate it, it is what it is. buut. if i'm only using it on a minimal scale, than it is acceptable. after all, there are missionaries using fbook these days. obviously, it's an important part of our society. and if nothing else, i'm certain i could never have a job in which i was only working on a computer. i would go insane. i like people too much. anyway, i think i'm just rambling now. the point is: these videos are refreshing reminders of a more eternal perspective. it's just what i needed to hear. sometimes i sit in the library in my little cubicle and have a binge of mormon messages, which i think is 100 percent acceptable.

i went for a drive tonight. just because i was restless.
and sometimes it's nice to get away from the world, don't you think?
(look carefully and you'll see a star.)

7:18pm:
 7:28pm:

the world is awfully pretty, don't you think?
watch the last 20 minutes of you've got mail,
[gets me every time. mmm.]
and then spend the rest of the day listening to lots of ingrid, jrad, and the weepies,
especially while watching the sun se couche.
and you've got yourself a beautiful day.

• roommate lauren is hilarious. really. the amount of hilarity and fun and enjoyment we have together is almost ridiculous. ok, so it is. member that time she spent three hours getting dressed on sunday? ha ha. good one.
• the mountain are more orange and red than ever, almost overnight.
• french class. la musique de romantisme en france. mmm. je l'adore.
• a constant suggestion that paris is always a wonderful place to be. paris est la france, bienentendu. baha. love.
• finding out that one of the section 2 babes i got close to in the hospital all summer in romania who was struggling when we left is currently thriving.
• going to class and feeling 100 percent capable of succeeding. i heart my major.
• thinking about romania memories after reading this. and thinking about a certain boy named fred. (his name isn't really fred. i just use that as his 'code name' of sorts. for privacy and security.)
• mint brownies. it's fine. i'm moderately obsessed.
• there was a guy practicing his trombone outside today. that really happened.
• seeing today's quote and being reminded of this day.
• laur's rental car is this beautiful thing. bahaahaaaaaa. dang, gena.
• speaking of laur, she came to visit ptown this weekend! i'll post pictchas soon.
• it's almost thanksgiving! not really. but it is coming up. fine by me. i want a break.
• almost being thanksgiving means it's almost CHRISTMAS! i made this realization of how soon it is yesterday. i can't even wait. i love christmas.
• i think my kindle has disappeared forever. i'm kind of depressed about it.
• it's still warm enough to not be tights-are-required weather!

guernsey goals.

i have a new location on my bucket list of places to visit:
(which currently stands as every country on earth, which is entirely beside the point.)
the island of guernsey.
i just finished reading the guernsey literary and potato peel pie society, and i kid you not was one of my favorite books i've ever read in my entire life. it's completely charming, completely captivating, and completely enchanting. a feel-good escape that takes you away for awhile, and makes you start to feel like you yourself are breathing that easy island air between england and france.
really, if you haven't read it, you need to.
also, i want to be juliet when i grow up.

today has been a day filled with important conclusions/goals about life.
namely: i need to get out of the united states and travel again. but not just travel.
live. discover.
i don't know when or how. i just know i must. i'm itching to escape to a brand new world.
mark my words, it's going to happen.
don't be surprised when it does.
consider this my advanced and pre-emptive warning.
{entirely unrelated: consider the following three-thousand words of love notes for romania from me.}
i find something thrilling about escaping from everything i've ever known and suddenly finding something else become familiar and beloved to me. so much so that the home i thought i always knew seems foreign when i return to it. so foreign in fact, that i find tears being shed as i realize the sheer gravity of the grand transition between vastly different worlds that takes place in that moment of crossing between homes.
because that's what happened when i came back from romania. [probably partially due to the emotional instability of being awake for over 24 hours and sitting on the tarmac for 2.5 hours before that last flight.] but aside from those details, i was crying anyway. for an entirely different reason. and i couldn't stop myself. (i think if it wasn't so late at night and dark, the man sitting next to me would have been more concerned.) because it didn't seem like reality. this place that i was supposed to embrace as home was like a stranger to me. as i drove to the airport on august 2nd and saw all the things i loved about romania for the last time [the old men leaning against the fence on the side of the road and talking, the millions of stray dogs, the gypsies, the shops opening, the people starting their day, the tram, the busses, etc.] and then flew out of iasi with a few last glimpses of the uniquely romanian countryside surrounding iasi, i cried at the knowledge that i might not return to this place again. that i was leaving this home and the unique characteristics of that place for what could be forever. i'm not planning on avoiding romania for the rest of my life. but i want to see everywhere else as well. everywhere. i want to learn the story of every other place, just as i have learned romania's/iasi's. because i'm sure every place has a story and character and people to love, just as that place did. this, my friends, is what i find thrilling. fascinating, really, that this phenomenon can even take place. this complete modification of a definition. any definition, really. because when you really begin to study it, you'll begin to see that the definition you have for something, is not necessarily representative of that thing, place, or person. what a thought i've come upon. and i hardly am able to express it. there's so much to be learned about the world. about the people of the world.
perspective. it's all about perspective.
perspective that leads to realignment of personal priorities.

a fire. fire of happiness.

i just love love love this.
this morning i ate 3 muffin halves.
(2 chocolate, 1 lemon poppyseed.)
and 2 glasses of chocolate milk.
lauren had 3 muffin halves.
(2 maple, 1 lemon poppyseed.)
and 4 glasses of chocolate milk.
and it's only 11 am.
it's fine.
a morning of modge podge, cooking demos, food in which inspiring/happy/cheesy words were shared.
what does this sound like to you?
you betcha.
love, love.
it's a beautiful day. don't let it get away.
i know everything is gonna be alright. yes, i know. it'll be alright.
and i've now concluded what i want my life to be and what makes me happiest.
i feel like this discounts everything else and makes it a productive morning.

someone cooler than you.

reasons why my family is cooler than your family:

i found out last week that my grandma knows the aunt of a girl in my major/a few of my classes.
or rather, that this lady knows my grandma. and knows who i am too.
she was the secretary when grandma was yw president. it's a small world.

everyone loves grandma. in their words:
'when janette beckham speaks, people listen.'
classy.

stevie buys me cafe rio.
sometimes.
we should make that happen again sometime.

stevie buys me jdawgs after we miss the free food on campus during homecoming week because of class.
mmm.

brothers and their significant others and me spend early saturday morning freezing together.
it was a nice bonding moment [hours]

grandma spoke at the groundbreaking for the new payson temple,

which means we got prime seating to watch cute dallin h. oaks with a shovel.
(as well as to listen to him speak, etc.)

and walk through hay and dirt, styling a lovely pink and flowery umbrella for protection from the raining cats&dogs.
(stevie loves the pink flowery look.)

this is what we look like when we're freezing. i don't know if this qualifies as a reason for being cool.
which of these people are not like the other? oh wait. we're all related. could you tell? :)
well, technically not sherry and kenzie. but they count anyway because i said so.
p.s. why is everyone's hair done and looking nice when we left at 7:30 in the morning??
i missed that memo.

cousin mikey, stevie, and the kenzer all helped 'break ground' for the temple.

at village inn we all got hot chocolate. but we all ordered separately. it's fine. mr.waiter loved it.
(there is so much wisdom in this quote)

my brothers and their significant others are cute.
a photo example, for good measure.
mostly i just made this one up because i like this picture and wanted a reason to include it.
and i can do what i want cause stevie only ever skims this bloggity.
and, well--i do what i want anyway.
maybe i am spoiled as the youngest?

brother let me use his id card to print my french paper on monday.
and while i finished editing it, he sat in the library distracting me by making me laugh.
(inappropriate. censor.)
otherwise i think i would have cried. oh, french.
i don't know how much other people appreciated it. especially the guy that was sleeping nearby.
but hey, it was the no-shh zone. thus we are off the hook.

soul sister is on fall break, but she gets a cool shout out because she makes me laugh during class.
we need to work on that.

momma went grocery shopping for me last week.
which means she bought me extra food.
(including oreos. and poptarts!)
which means i have food.
(my shelf in the fridge was literally 100 percent bare for a few days there. oops.)

doug&sherry have joined the bosch clan. win.
it's a great clan to be in.

i get to turn into a complete and immature child when around one or both of my brothers.
really, it just happens. i don't even try.
i become a child. selfish. needy. immature. something like that.
amazing that they don't think i'm more ridiculous than i am seeing as how i act when around them.
you would think i was a complete moron with no depth or resilience whatsoever.
i can't help it!

i'm sure there are more reasons.
[there are always more reasons.]
but if we're just talking about reasons within the past week/mostly the weekend,
then this would be it.
cool story, eh?
ha haaa. i so funny.
